About Us Purdy Concrete, Purdy Materials and Purdy
Sod are locally owned and operated suppliers of ready-mix concrete,
sand, gravel, limestone and sod to Tippecanoe County and the surrounding
areas. Our family has been farming in Indiana for over one hundred
years. After growing crops and raising livestock for more than eighty
years, we sought to diversify our business and began supplying building
materials to the rapidly growing residential and commercial construction
industry.
In 1985, Edward and
Carol Purdy opened a concrete company in Lafayette, Indiana with
volumetric site mixers. These mixers transported ingredients on-site
and mixed the amount of concrete needed for each job. In 1987, Purdy
Concrete invested in front discharge ready-mix trucks and a permanent
concrete plant. In 1995, a second plant was built to serve the West
Lafayette market. Today, Purdy Concrete has sixteen ready-mix trucks
and two concrete plants, which allow for prompt service to both
large and small projects.
In 1993, Purdy Farms began to raise a new crop – sod. With
knowledge gained from our relationships with Turfgrass Producers
International and Purdue University, Purdy Farms planted 30 acres
of Kentucky bluegrass sod the first year. Since then, our acreage
has grown to over 250 acres providing a continuous year-round crop.
Our sod is cut to order for either delivery or pick up at the farm.
In 1997, we expanded the business again and opened a gravel pit
called Purdy Materials. The pit is located on farmland in Tippecanoe
County near Lafayette, Indiana. The gravel pit provides quality
aggregate for concrete production as well as for retail sales. Materials
mined from this site include sand, gravel, landscape rocks and topsoil.
As long-term residents of Tippecanoe County, our family has had
the pleasure of participating in numerous local activities and social
service projects. We remain dedicated to the growth and future of
our community.
